preVentrilo
What is preVentrilo?
preVentrilo is a program that will sit in your system tray
and pause your media player when certain actions occur on
Ventrilo. It can do this
when someone else talks and/or when you talk. If you are using
Winamp, you also have the option to adjust the volume rather than pause.

Download preVentrilo
Download preVentrilo. The following
must be true for the program to work correctly:
-
You are using 32 bit Ventrilo (64 bit Ventrilo is not supported at this time. You
can have a 64 bit processor, but you must be running the 32 bit version of Ventrilo.)
- Ventrilo is using DirectSound for output.
- Ventrilo is not using extended mode.
Supported Media Players
preVentrilo has been tested and is fully compatible with:
It is recommended that you use Winamp for maximum compatibility. However,
limited support is available for:
- foobar2000 (v0.9.5.5 with no customization)
- iTunes (v8)
- Rhapsody (v4)
- Windows Media Player (v11)
Refer to the "Known Problems" section of this page for the reason that these
media players are only considered mostly compatible. If the version that
is listed is not the version you are using, the program may still work -
try it out. The above is the list of what it has been tested with.
Using preVentrilo
Using preVentrilo is easy. It will even start Ventrilo for you if it isn't
running. Download it, extract it, and go
to the folder where it was extracted. After you double-click "preVentrilo.exe"
to start it up, you should notice a new icon in your system tray. You can
right-click on this icon to bring up a menu where you can choose different
options.
Problems with preVentrilo?
Here are a couple things you should check if you experience problems:
- preVentrilo is only compatible with 32 bit Ventrilo.
-
Ventrilo needs to be using DirectSound for output (click on the
"Setup..." button, and check "Use DirectSound", above "Output
Device" on the upper right section of the window).
-
Make sure that Ventrilo is not running in extended mode
(right-click on the main Ventrilo window, View > Extended mode
should not be checked).
- Your media player is listed in the supported list.
If you still experience problems feel free to
send an email with the your
media player, version number, and a brief description of the problem.
Known Problems
preVentrilo is a work in progress and has a problem or two when not using Winamp:
-
When not using Winamp, preVentrilo will unpause your media player
when someone speaks and pause it when they stop if your media
player is paused at the time they speak.
This will not happen if the media player is stopped. Temporary
solution: stop your media player rather than pausing it.
This does not occur with Winamp.
